Coach's tip: Composite barrels reward a proper break-in — have hitters take 100–200 controlled swings off a tee and soft toss, rotating the barrel a quarter turn between hits, before taking it into live BP so the fibers fully load. Never use a composite bat in temperatures below about 60°F, as cold can crack the barrel; store it indoors at room temperature and wipe it down after each session to keep the finish and grip clean.
